Fruit juice packaging made from fruit juice wastewater

26 May 2016

The EU-funded PHBOTTLE project has created novel sustainable packaging materials using wastewater originating from the fruit juice industry. The fruit juice industries consume large volumes of water, both for the cleaning of equipment and facilities, as well as for the washing of fruit.
During a final workshop in April 2016, the projects results were presented and the developed innovative packaging was showcased. With the concept of the ‘Circular Economy’ currently being a major policy issue, the project has made an important contribution to the growth of ‘green chemistry’ solutions that reduce environmental impacts and reduce society’s dependence on petroleum-based products.
