EU: 76% of steel packaging recycled in 2014

24 August 2016

The Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging APEAL has announced that recycling of steel packaging in Europe reached a new all-time high of 76% in 2014. This is 1% more than in the previous year. The methodology and data sources used by APEAL for the calculation of this rate were independently reviewed audited and certified by energy and waste specialist consultancy, Eunomia.
The country overview shows that a number of countries are lagging behind. Alexander Mohr, secretary general of APEAL, said: “By sharing best practices across Europe we are confident that we will meet our self-imposed target of 80% recycling by 2020” (Press Release APEAL, 27 June 2016).
