Germany: clarity on food label

30 August 2016

The German minister of Agriculture and Food, Christian Schmidt, says about the reformation of the 'Deutsche Lebensmittelbuch-Kommission': “My goal is that the reality in the supermarket shelves has a stronger correlation with the expectations of the consumers”.
He wants the recommendations to have “a stronger orientation on the wish of the consumer to have ‘truth and clarity’. We will achieve this with this reformation.” The reformed regulations of the 'Deutsche Lebensmittelbuch-Kommission' (DLMBK) has come of force on 1 July 2016 and the committee members have been newly appointed. The appointment period is from 1 July 2016 until 30 June 2021 (Press Release BMEL, 4 July 2016).
