Consumer expects 13% of groceries to be done online

08 January 2016

A consumer research performed by GfK states that the consumer is ready for an enormous growth in e-commerce. Consumers expect the use of home delivery and pick-up point solutions to grow substantially in the next three years. They expect to do 13% of their shopping online, which is a growth of 684 percent in comparison to 2015. Large families are the most frequent users of e-commerce for groceries, making up for 58 percent of all food purchases performed online. This same group only accounts for 41.3% of purchases in traditional supermarkets.
Self-scanning has also become more popular, accounting for 21% of all purchases in 2015, which is expected to grow to 45% by 2018.
