BE: Testaankoop.be says no more misleading fruits on labels

01 March 2016

Over 120 food packs that displayed pictures of fruits were checked in the test of testaankoop.be. Many products fell short because they added minimal amounts of fruits as alibi for the use of aromas and colourants, replaced exotic fruits for cheaper fruits, or even did not contain any real fruits even though they were displayed on the pack.
When fruits are displayed on a pack in words or images, it is legally required to declare the percentage of these fruits in the list of ingredients.
To combat these practices Testaankoop.be pleas for specific guidelines with minimum percentages for certain food categories like fruit yoghurt and fruit drinks (testaankoop.be, 28 January 2016).
