US: More plastic packaging recycled in 2014

Two recently published reports show that the amount of plastic packaging that is recycled in the US is increasing. According to the 2014 National Postconsumer Non-Bottle Rigid Plastic Recycling Report, a minimum of 1.284 billion pounds of postconsumer non-bottle rigid plastic was reported as recovered for recycling in 2014: an increase of 276 million pounds or 27% compared to 2013.
The 2014 National Postconsumer Plastic Bag and Film Recycling Report found a minimum of 1.17 billion pounds of postconsumer film (which includes plastic bags and packaging) was recovered for recycling in 2014, an overall increase of 3% over 2013 and an increase of 79% since 2005.
