US FDA modernises Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods

31 May 2016

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration took a major step in making sure consumers have updated nutritional information for most packaged foods sold in the United States, that will help people make informed decisions about the foods they eat and feed their families.
The new label features a refreshed design, and reflects updated information about nutrition science and updates serving sizes and labeling requirements for certain package sizes. Most food manufacturers will be required to use the new label by July 26, 2018. Manufacturers with less than $10 million in annual food sales will have an additional year to comply with the new rules (FDA News Release, 20 May 2016).
