TNO research: Safety risks of robots at the workplace

The developments in the field of robotics are going fast, which also shows from the increasing national and international attention for robots, robotisation, industry 2.0, and smart industry. As robots are being used more often, there is a good chance that the number of accidents will increase as well. Next to collision, one could also consider indirect risks, like when a robot hits a rack with goods.
TNO has explored the safety risks that flow from working with robots at the workplace. This exploration shows that the manufacturer of robots and robot applications plays an important role regarding the safety at work (News Item Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, 21 October 2016).
