SE: Dairy products + juices added to container deposit scheme

24 June 2016

On 2 June 2016, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published an opinion stating that it supports adding dairy products and juices to the country's container deposit scheme. The EPA was requested to submit an opinion at the request of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, which also supports the addition. Containers of dairy products and juices have been exempt under the current container deposit scheme, which was established in 2006. The EPA said the change should increase recycling of dairy products and juice containers, although the agency noted it does not have in depth data on the current recycling rate for such containers (Recycling Laws Update Bulletin, 15 June 2016).
