OECD report: Environmental Performance Review for NL

17 March 2016

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has published a report that reviews the environmental performance of the Netherlands over the period 2003-2014. The last OECD review took place in 2003. The Netherlands is one of the OECD’s best performers in the area of waste management.
The use of “pay as you throw”, or “Diftar”, charging schemes has generally improved the efficiency of waste management. There is further scope for use of Diftar schemes, especially in large and medium-sized cities. Another promising development is the use of reverse collection schemes in which the service offered for separated waste is better than that offered for unseparated waste.
