NL Minutes Gov. meeting: banning free plastic bags and more

On 17 December 2015 the Dutch House Committee on Infrastructure and Environment held a debate about the circular economy. The final minutes of this meeting were published on 17 February 2016. Among the subjects discussed were the draft regulations concerning the ban on free plastic bags and how these regulations will be enforced. On 18 December 2015 the final regulations were published. The regulations that came into force on 1 January 2016 introduce a ban on giving away free plastic bags at points of sale. The ban applies to all plastic bags regardless of how thick or thin they are, even though there are some exceptions. Compostable and biodegradable bags are not exempted.
