NL: Pilot reward systems small PET-bottles and cans started

12 January 2016

In 39 municipalities in the Netherlands, pilots have been started enabling organisations to receive a reward for the collection of i.e. small PET bottles, cans and/or other packaging material. The participating organisations receive the reward from their municipality. The reward can be financial or a reward in kind, like school breakfasts or neighbourhood parties.
The municipalities have each chosen their own set-up of the pilot, which will run for 2 years. The goal is to develop an effective nationwide policy as of 1 January 2018, taking the experiences with the different set-ups of the pilots into account (Press Release Dutch Packaging Waste Fund, 21 December 2015).
