NL: Overview claims on cosmetic products

02 May 2016

In 2015 the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) investigated the claims on labels of childcare products and skin protection products. The report 'Claims op cosmetische producten' gives an overview of claims and the main criteria these claims have to meet. The statement has to be honest, fair, just, and underpinned with scientific evidence, and the consumer should be able to make a well informed choice based on the label.
In the NVWA investigation, a limited random check was done to assess if the criteria are met. This showed that in only 4 out of 9 dossiers the claims were sufficiently supported by scientific evidence (Newsletter Waar&Wet, 26 April 2016).
