NL: NVWA Project misleading labelling

26 October 2017

In 2016 and 2017, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has assessed 250 labels of products as part of a research project on misleading labelling. This was done to check if the information on the label complied with the labelling legislation. 82 out of the almost 250 examined products were classified as misleading.
The businesses that have put these products on the market have received a written warning because they have violated article 7 of Regulation (EU) 1169/2011. The Vegetarische Slager (Vegetarian Butcher) also received a warning from the NVWA, which caused a lot of commotion in the media (NVWA-news item, 11 October 2017).
