Dutch Government calls for reducing human exposure to BPA

17 March 2016

The Dutch Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport and Infrastructure and the Environment announced that they want to reduce exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), particularly for pregnant women and young children. However, the ministries said they are not advocating a complete ban of the chemical because there is "a lack of clarity" about the safety of many BPA alternatives.
The Ministries said they will ask the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to consider settling a lower safe total daily intake level for BPA. They are also concerned about the health of some workers, particularly cashiers that routinely handle BPA-impregnated thermal paper receipts (State Recycling Laws Update, 7 March 2016).
