NL: Reconsideration of low tariff for bioplastics

01 March 2016

In 2013 the Dutch Packaging Waste Fund introduced a separate tariff for bioplastics. The reason given was that there should be no extra costs involved in the collection and processing, because it is mainly collected together with organic waste.
However, after 3 years it has become clear that these packs also end up in the Plastic Heroes system. The Dutch Packaging Waste Fund is considering bringing the tariff for bioplastics up to the same level as for other plastic packaging and has started an investigation. If the tariff is brought up to the same level then this will come of force in 2018. A first tariff rise might become effective in 2017 (Newsletter Packaging Waste Fund, February 2016).
