NL: No more free plastic bags – the consumer’s opinion

31 May 2016

On request of the Dutch ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, research bureau SAMR (Smart Agent MarktResponse) has conducted research about the familiarity with the ban on handing out free plastic bags by shopkeepers. The field work was done between 4 and 12 May 2016.
The research shows that the enactment works. Ninety percent of the Dutch people are by now familiar with the ban on free plastic bags. Over 8 out of 10 Dutch people now bring their own plastic bags for their purchases and two thirds rarely or never pays for a plastic bag. An article about the research was published in the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD) on 24 May 2016 (News Item SAMR).
