NL: Food sector gets back on growth path in 2016 and 2017

01 March 2016

ABN AMRO expects an average increase of almost 2% in the expenditure for food by the Dutch consumer in 2016 and 2017. This growth will particularly come from out-of-home consumption, but the expenditure for consumption at home will also increase.
A number of trends is gaining importance. These are the aging population, increase in the number of one-person-households, and the need for a healthier diet. Industry can anticipate on these trends by, for example, offering smaller servings in a larger variety. The sensitivity of the consumer for convenience (further growth of online food retail), health and quality remains unabated (News Item ABN AMRO, 5 February 2016).
