NL: 2 million online food shoppers in 2017

28 September 2016

In 2017, over 1 in 6 Dutch people will buy food and drinks online. Shoppers will still do the majority of their groceries in the physical supermarket, and will continue to do so in the near future. The largest growth will be in the online supermarket channel, with an expected growth of the turnover in 2017 of over 30%. This will make the market share of online in the supermarket channel grow to 5%. These are results of the Smart Food Monitor, market research performed among 7,000 Dutch people.
Most of the customers (68%) have their groceries delivered to their home. 1 in 5 prefers to pick them up in the shop, and 1 in 10 at a pick-up point (Press Release Multiscope, 22 September 2016).
