Last mile logistics is difficult

08 January 2016

The last mile, which can be seen as the last leg of e-commerce fulfilment, is expanding and innovating at an extensive rate. The last mile contributes to about 60% of the total logistics costs for home deliveries. The growing amount of consumer orders in the Netherlands has driven change in this sector. This change has been reported in a White Paper by UC Logistics (November 2015).
The increased growth in volume of deliveries will drive higher service levels attained by delivery services, which includes faster, more trustworthy and more frequent deliveries The potential collaboration between the logistics provider and web shops will also increase the check-out experience for customers.
