Fraud and risk management for Crowdfunding

08 January 2016

The potential for fraud within the crowdfunding sector has been widely discussed. A report focussing on both understanding the regulatory programs in, and emerging trends of crowdfunding has recently been published by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). This report also aims at raising awareness regarding some of the major risks, including steps to mitigate these risks, associated with internet finance.
The main conclusion of this report is that the crowdfunding regimes are in their infancy, various regulatory commonalities and discrepancies were found between platforms and local jurisdictions use a variety of approaches to regulate crowdfunding.
