Future of packaging for e-commerce (WRP): robots and more

30 September 2016

Web Retail Packaging (WRP) is the activity of packaging products which are ordered on-line and delivered to the individual consumer/customer, either directly at home or via pick-up points. Which packaging-related factors may pose opportunities or threats to e-commerce? These questions were addressed in two consecutive NVC meetings on 22 and 23 September 2016.
Topics included the implementation of robotics for the e-commerce order picking process, the necessity to adapt packaging to omnichannel retail, the results of the NVC E-Commerce Order Composition Survey and the urgency to (re)think e-commerce packaging in terms of efficiency and environmental footprint.
