BE: Status ban plastic bags in the three regions

16 February 2017

Since 1 December 2016 the use of lightweight or very lightweight single-use plastic bags is prohibited in retail commerce in Wallonia. The decree came into effect on 1 March 2017 for other bags intended for packaging goods in commerce.
In the Brussels-Capital Region the use of lightweight or very lightweight single-use plastic bags will be prohibited in retail commerce as of 1 September 2017. The prohibition shall come into effect on 1 September 2018 for other bags intended for packaging goods in commerce. Flanders will also soon say farewell to the conventional plastic bags. The expectation is that measures will be implemented as of 1 January 2018 (News Item BVI).
