UK lowers glass packaging recycling target

The United Kingdom’s Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) held a consultation on current glass packaging recycling targets. Following the conclusion of the consultation, on 20 March 2014, Defra released an impact assessment on glass recycling targets.
The current 81% total glass packaging recycling target is being decreased to 75%. It will increase to 76% percent next year and 77% in 2016 and beyond. The aggregate use target for this year will now be 35% and will decrease by 1% for each of the next two years. The remelt target for this year will now be 65% and will increase by 1% for each of the next two years (Recycling Laws International, 21 March 2014).
