Packaging and logistics – improving the efficiency

02 December 2014

Despite the prevalence of the packaging operations in industry, and the relationship with packaging and logistics, little research has focused on ways to improve their efficiencies. Researchers at the Universidad EAFIT in Colombia present an approach to facilitate packaging design, through adaptation of Design for Assembly (DFA) guidelines. This approach focuses on manual packaging and on transport packaging, industrial packaging or distribution packaging.
A case study concerning packaging problems of dishware shows the results obtained with the proposed approach. An article about the research is published in the Procedia of the 24th CIRP Design Conference.
