Separation system for beverage carton waste

01 December 2014

The consumption of milk in China is increasing and huge amounts of aseptic composite milk packaging waste is being generated. Researchers at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences studied a wet process technique for separating the aluminum and polyethylene from the composite materials.
In a demonstration facility polyethylene and aluminum recovery rates of more than 98% and more than 72%, respectively, were achieved. Separating 1 ton of aluminium–polyethylene composite packaging material gave a profit of 1769 Yuan, meaning that an effective method for recycling aseptic composite packaging waste was achieved. An article about the research is published in Waste Management.
