NL: Proposal to reduce household waste with 60% by 2020

18 December 2014

The Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure and Environment has sent a proposal to the Dutch House (Tweede Kamer) to reduce per capita household waste per year from 250 kilograms to 100 kilograms by 2020. The proposal calls for a coordinated effort among the Ministry, the Association of Dutch Municipalities (VNG) and the Dutch Association of Waste Collection Services (NVRD). The proposal also sets a 75% goal for source separation of household waste by 2020.
The Ministry said it would provide one million euros to help fund source separation efforts and consumer education to reduce waste generation (Recycling Laws International Bulletin, 3 December 2014).
