NL: Two Green Deals for a cleaner sea and beach

01 December 2014

We need to reduce the amount of litter ending up in the North Sea. The Dutch government, the fishing sector and the beach sector will join forces in a creative, innovative way to tackle the “plastic soup”. The parties involved have signed two Green Deals in which they commit themselves to concrete plans.
By signing the Fishery for a Clean Sea Green Deal, the fisheries sector commits itself to tackle the waste issue. Marine waste not only comprises waste from operations and fishing gear, but also domestic and dredged-up waste. The Clean Beaches Green Deal was signed by 33 parties. Together they will combat waste on the Dutch beaches (Press Release Government of the Netherlands, 24 November 2014).
