Beverage can fillings continue to rise across Europe, with both the soft drink and beer sectors recording growth in 2013

12 September 2014

Can fillings in Europe increased by 2.8% in 2013, according to the latest figures released by Beverage Can Makers Europe (BCME) – almost the same rate of growth as the previous year. A total of 61bn cans were filled across the continent, with gains for both soft drink and beer fillings, and the Turkish, Romanian/Bulgarian and Danish markets registering the three highest rates of annual growth.
Thanks to the growing popularity of energy drinks and the launch of innovative new products – and despite poor weather in spring and the first half of summer over most of Europe last year – soft drink fillings registered annual growth of 3.6% with a total of 30bn cans filled.
