Sustainable food more often on shopping list of Dutch consumers

Dutch consumers more often choose food that has been produced in an environmentally and animal friendly way. Last year they spent €257 million more on these products than in 2012: an increase of 10.8% resulting in a turnover of in total €2.5 billion. These are the main results of the Monitor Sustainable Food 2013.
For the fourth consecutive year the Monitor Sustainable Food shows an increase of the number of products with a sustainable quality mark. The total amount spent on sustainable food (€2.5 billion) has more than doubled compared to 2009. The market share of sustainable food showed an increase of 5.5% compared to 2012 (News Item Government of the Netherlands, 4 June 2014).
