Argentina: Buenos Aires expands waste separation and recycling requirements to adjoining cities

The Buenos Aires Provincial Agency for Sustainable Development (OPDS) has announced that resolutions have been approved adding six municipalities to the requirements of the 2020 Strategic Plan of the Coordinadora Ecológica Área Metropolitana Sociedad del Estado (CEAMSE).
The OPDS announcement also noted that effective February 1, 2014, large waste generators such as four and five star hotels, shopping malls, hypermarkets and fast-food restaurants must begin separating wet waste (primarily food) from dry waste (recyclable material including cardboard , paper, plastics, glass and metals) and are responsible for the proper treatment (Recycling Laws International, 18 December 2013).
