Advice Health Council of the Netherlands risks prenatal exposure to substances like bisphenol A

15 May 2014

The Health Council of the Netherlands has examined which substances cause a problem during prenatal exposure. According to the council, prenatal risks are most clearly demonstrated for lead, Methylmercury, PCBs, dioxin-like compounds and organophosphates. There are probably risks related to prenatal exposure to DDT/DDE, PBDEs and fluorocarbons. In the case of phtalates, cadmium and bisphenol A (BPA) the council characterizes the risks as possible.
At the same time the council published an advisory letter on the health risks of so called bisphenol A analogues – substances that are chemically related to BPA (Press release Health Council of the Netherlands, 19 March 2014).
