Work-related disorders among packaging industry workers

04 February 2014

Researchers at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia conducted a study among workers in the packaging-shipping sector (warehouses, distribution, e-fulfillment centers, etc.). In particular they analysed Musculoskeletal Disorder in relation to transferring a product into its packaging box and sealing it. Several awkward postures were detected to be high in risk factors. These mainly involve lifting heavy product and excessive bending. As a conclusion the method used was able to detect the problematic postures and could be used as a basis for work place improvement to avoid discomfort or further health complications. An article about the research was published in Advanced Engineering Forum.
