USA: Survey finds continued strong support for FDA’s biotech foods labelling policy
The International Food Information Council IFIC has conducted a research amongst 3500 Americans showing that confidence in the safety of the U.S. food supply remains consistently high, a majority is satisfied with current labels, and that a majority of the respondents support the current U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA policy for labelling of foods produced through biotechnology.
The current FDA labelling policy for foods produced using biotechnology calls only for specific labelling when biotechnology substantially changes the food’s nutritional content or composition, or when a potential safety issue (such as food allergen) is identified (Food Insight Press Release, 18 June 2014).
