Increase in PET trays demands structural recycling solutions

27 October 2016

At this moment there are no cost-effective recycling processes for PET trays in the Netherlands. Since a number of years there has been a growth in the use of PET trays as packaging material for both food and non-food products. This growth is expected to continue. Therefore a solution is needed that provides a better way to recycle PET trays.
The Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) explored the matter to provide a starting point for closing this chain in a better way. As one of the conclusions, KIDV states that the extent in which PET trays can be recycled in the future depends on the success of new initiatives in the recycling market (News Item KIDV, 4 October 2016).
