Positive rating of three health claims on non-digestable carbohydrates, iron and vitamin C

28 January 2014

Article 13, paragraph 5 and article 14 of EU regulation 1924/2006 set rules for health claims. Three applications have recently been approved by the EFSA in this context.
The following claims may be presented on the label:
- “Consumption of foods/drinks containing non-digestible carbohydrates instead of sugars induces a lower blood glucose rise after meals compared to sugar-containing foods/drinks” for non-digestible carbohydrates,
- “Iron contributes to normal formation of haemoglobin and red blood cells” for iron
- “Vitamin C contributes to increasing non-haem iron absorption” for vitamin C.
