Starch in packaging: Review of recent developments

Various modification methods have been developed to produce starch films/coatings with improved forming capacities and have gained increased interests in both industrial and academic research. In an article, researchers at the University of Kashmir in India present a review that gives a comprehensive and current overview of the widely available information and recent advances in starch film packaging.
In the review the role of various plasticizers, polys, sugars, and wetting agents is discussed and their importance in packaging industries. The role of starch as packaging material and nanofillers/composites is also discussed in detail. The review is published in Cogent Food & Agriculture.
