Austria sends draft regulation to European Commission laying down defining proportions for household and commercial packaging

28 October 2014

Austria has sent a draft regulation to the European Commission laying down defining proportions for household and commercial packaging (Packaging Definitions Regulation). The standstill period ends on 5 January 2015.
The Regulation defines 47 product groups. All packaging should be classified into a product group based on the products or goods that are packaged in it. For all product groups, a default classification as either household packaging or commercial packaging is defined. Furthermore, proportions for each packaging substance are defined for the product groups, which should be classified into the other main group, i.e. household packaging produced in commercial settings and vice versa.
