Development of films from fish processing waste

Researchers at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in India prepared biodegradable films using muscle protein from fish waste and processing discard (FG), fish gel with potato starch (FGS), fish gel with butylated hydroxyl toluene (FGB) and fish gel with ascorbic acid (FGA).
FGA had better tensile strength, lower barrier properties and less water solubility compared to FG, FGS and FGB. Mechanical properties of this film were similar to the films prepared from other biological origins. The results indicate that the FGA film is suitable for application in food packaging. An article about the research is published in the International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences.
