NL Retail pilot plastic carrier bags The Netherlands: best price is €0.10

03 March 2014

The best price to charge a customer for a plastic carrier bag in retail is €0.10. These results are given in a pilot project by the Dutch Knowledge Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) in the Dutch retail sector. Eight out of nine participating retailers thought €0.10 to be a good price; one did not express an opinion. The amount of free carrier bags decreased for the four retailers concerned who also supplied their calibration data. For these retailers, the amount of paid carrier bags increased. A follow-up study on the sustainability of the different carrier bags materials was announced.
The KIDV is financed by the Waste Fund Packaging, together with several other organisations.
