NL: NVWA-IOD research possible fraud with meat

31 May 2016

On Friday 13 May, the Intelligence and Investigation Service of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA-IOD) searched two business properties in South Holland. Lead by the office of the public prosecutor, the NVWA-IOD is conducting research on presumptive fraud with the origin of pork.
The presumption is that the suspects changed the origin of approved pork from the European Union (EU) by replacing the identification stickers and markings on the packaging to make it look as if the meat was coming from outside the EU. This way they would be able to export the meat to the Russian Federation that has an import restriction for pork from the EU (NVWA, 17 May 2016).
