NL: Food produced in the Netherlands popular amongst Dutch consumers

08 September 2014

According to research conducted by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, 4 out of 10 Dutch consumers deliberately buy food products produced in the Netherlands. Moreover, a large part of the Dutch population deals consciously with food products and pays attention to increasing sustainability in the food system.
Reason for the conscious choice of Dutch products is the belief that those products are better for environment and landscape, are better for Dutch economy and/or that consumers have more confidence in those products. It is expected from the government to provide more information and to promote food production for own consumption (PBL News Release, 7 August 2014).
