NL: Logo on alcoholic beverages should warn pregnant women for alcohol consumption

04 June 2014

The Dutch State Secretary of Health, Welfare and Sports, Mr. M.J. van Rijn, shares his statement regarding the introduction of a mandatory logo on alcoholic beverages to protect pregnant women in a letter to the President of the Dutch House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer).
To avoid the consumption of alcohol when women want to get pregnant, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, State Secretary van Rijn sees, next to information provided by midwives, general practitioners and gynaecologists, the introduction of the pregnancy logo on alcoholic beverages as a logical next step in creating awareness of the risks of the use of alcohol during pregnancy (rijksoverheid.nl, 28 April 2014).
