NL: Implementation tobacco directive adopted

26 May 2016

On 26 April, the Senate of the Dutch Parliament adopted the proposal for the implementation of the Tobacco Products Directive. This directive had to be transposed into national law before 20 May 2016. The changes concern among other things expanding the scope of the directive to include electronic cigarettes and refill containers, and the labelling of tobacco products.
Now, each unit packet and any outside packaging of tobacco products for smoking shall carry combined health warnings that contain a colour photograph and text warning that cover 65% of both the external front and back surface, and should include smoking cessation information to support people that want to stop smoking.
