NL Consumer: environmental measures need to be convenient

28 September 2016

According to a study by SAMR and Heartbeat Strategy among over 1,000 consumers, only 13% of the Dutch people think that their own behaviour does not influence the environment. Still, only half of the consumers take measures to limit their personal impact on the environment. Sustainability has to be convenient and should not cost too much. The benefit for the environment also has to be proven. The consumer lays a large part of the responsibility with industry. Most consumers choose relatively easy and well-known environmental measures, like separating waste (79%). Avoiding packaging material is not popular (29%), because it takes too much effort (Press Release SAMR, 12 September 2016).
