New publication compares sustainability of biobased products from natural oil

06 February 2014

In the ‘Groene Grondstoffen' series, a new book has been published about the sustainability of biobased products. Products made from natural oil are compared, with an emphasis on the environmental impact.
For all of the products that were compared the researchers found that replacing fossil products with comparable biobased products led to a reduction in the amount of greenhouse gasses emitted and in the use of fossil energy. An important conclusion is that producing biobased products from natural oil results in a larger reduction of fossil energy and greenhouse gas emissions than when it is processed as fuel (News Item Wageningen UR, 17 January 2014).
