New labels and information about allergens in food product

23 December 2014

Since 13 December the new European information requirements are in force. Consumers have to be informed in a better and unambiguous way about products. The new regulation was published three years ago in Brussels, so the producers have had plenty of time to prepare themselves. New labels have to comply with this regulation from now on.
Allergens have to be mentioned in a more eye-catching way and there is special attention for products sold through web-shops. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) enforces the regulation. In 2015 there will be random checks for compliance with the new regulation (News Item NVWA, 11 December 2014).
