New disposable optical humidity sensors developed

30 August 2016

Researchers at the Singapore Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, A*STAR have designed a humidity sensor that is easy to manufacture, overcoming the challenge of producing a simple, fast and highly sensitive version. The sensor exploits the unique properties of ultrathin layers of graphene oxide (GO) films.
The low-cost, non-toxicity and rapid response of GO sensors makes them ideal as disposable sensors. They can be incorporated into food packaging, where humidity levels need to be strictly controlled for storage, for medical instrumentation and semiconducting device manufacturing and storage, as well as environmental monitoring (News Item A*STAR, 27 July 2016).
