Quality marks play a role in the choice of food and drinks for six out of ten (61%) of Dutch people. Max Havelaar is the best known quality mark of the Netherlands. This is the result of the Smart Food Monitor, a market study by Multiscope performed among 7,000 Dutch people.
Quality marks for animal welfare are the most popular. Almost four out of ten (37%) Dutch people find these quality marks important. Three out of ten (32%) find quality marks for fair trade important. Additionally, over a quarter (27%) thinks quality marks about nature and environment are important. People often buy fresh products like meat and fish with quality marks (Press Release Multiscope, 20 October 2016).
