85% paper and board recycled in The Netherlands in 2013

02 October 2014

In 2013 85% of the consumed amount of paper and board for graphical applications and packaging was recovered and recycled in The Netherlands. Of the 2,761,000 tons placed on the market in 2013 2,350,000 tons were recovered and recycled. The result of 85% is a total for the reuse of all applications of paper and board recovered from households and industry.
The Dutch organisation for paper recycling PRN (Papier Recycling Nederland) notes that an increasing number of the municipalities appreciate the recovered paper and board as raw material. There is also more of a focus on the recovery of paper and board in the recovery systems of the municipalities (Press Release PRN, 10 September 2014).
